BIS 301 - Foundations of Interdisciplinary Studies

This is the introductory class into the Interdisciplinary Studies program.  The focus of the class was to learn what it meant to be interdisciplinary.  Researching other interdisciplinarians, as well as developing professional tools such as a mission statement and resume, both took place during this class.  Further, a final integration presentation where groups present skits integrating several different disciplines took place.  This skit was the most applicable event during class, enabling the students to see what happens when combining skills and knowledge from a variety of disciplines.

BIS 401 - Applied Interdisciplinary Studies

This class is actually an internship taken place at a site which helps to integrate both concentration areas.  Blogs are then updated each week keeping track of progress as an intern.  Upon completion of 125 hours, the internship is then over.  I chose to have my internship at Mountain Pointe High School, under the supervision of Fred Mann.  He is a guidance counselor at the school, as well as the boys and girls volleyball coach.  The idea here was to apply my knowledge of psychology during the day in the guidance office.  Once school was over, I would then retrieve my kinesiological background to apply to the sports setting.  Further, I am strongly considering a career in high school education.  All in all, this internship could not have been set up much better.  I learned many important things about the school system, as well as how all different types of people and teachers must work together to function as a unit.  The communication skills with kids and teachers alike was an important addition, and the whole experience was priceless.

BIS 302 - Interdisciplinary Inquiry

This second class took the interdisciplinary approach and applied these acquired skills to develop a theoretical research proposal.  Skills that were learned include research skills, different data collection methods, and a variety of ways in which to analyze data and draw conclusions from research.  More specifically, I developed a research proposal to analyze the psychological effects of an athletic injury.

BIS 402 - Senior Seminar (Integrating Identities)

This seminar class was the last of my classes at ASU.  The focus of the class was concerning identity, and we approached the topic in an interdisciplinary manner.  We have analyzed the different aspects of identity, how identities are formed, and what impact one's identity has on the rest of life.  Also, I have helped enhance my written communication skills through reflective assignments, as well as taken a deeper look inside of my own self.

Here is a short, philosophical essay about one subject I am very passionate about, sports.  I have attempted to look at sports through an interdisciplinary lens.  This I Believe
